Industry collaboration for uranium safety
Australian uranium companies are building a program of uranium stewardship, which means they are working together and through the AUA to tackle critical issues of uranium use, such as technical safety, best-practice environmental and operational management and maintaining a robust weapons non-proliferation system.
Stewardship is a continuous and developing process in which companies contribute as they can in their own businesses and in dealings with customers.
The AUA, as the industry’s advocacy body, takes up stewardship issues such as non-proliferation and waste management in a number of ways, such as through direct representations to Government and regulatory bodies and through participation in Parliamentary reviews.
The industry’s activities are based on a set of Uranium Stewardship Principles, which are consistent with similar standards within the World Nuclear Association.
